ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − John Brooks sank a three-pointer with five seconds remaining in the game as Nova Southeastern University edged Flagler College 78-75 in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Flagler Gym.

Nova Southeastern evens its record at 1-1 while Flagler fell to 1-2.

Brooks scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. He also passed out four assists. Alex Gynes tallied 11 points and grabbed six rebounds while Rob Huntington chipped in with 10 points. Brian Cahill grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Sharks. Cody Dennison passed out five assists.

John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla./New Hampton Prep) and Lyndon Merthie (Sanford, Fla./St. Petersburg College) each scored 15 points. Merthie tallied 13 in the first half alone. Adam Dixon (Victoria, Australia/Lilydale HS) added 12 points while Chad July (Fort White, Fla./Bridgton Academy) posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. #D.J. Ferguson# (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore HS) chipped in with nine points and a game-high eight assists.

Nova Southeastern grabbed an early 11-4 lead, but Flagler would answer scoring the next five points, all coming from Merthie. He sank a three-pointer and had a transition layup to get the Saints back into the contest.

The Sharks would take a 32-27 lead into the half.

NSU would use a 12-2 run early in the second half to take 52-40 lead, but Flagler would counter with a run of its own, 13-4, to tie the game at 57 with 6:20 left after a Merthie jumper.

Flagler breaks for Thanksgiving and will return to action at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at Daytona Beach.
