JACKSONVILLE, Fla. − A penalty kick by Akil DeFreitas in the 97th minute gave the University of North Florida (NCAA Division I) a 2-1 overtime win over Flagler College (NCAA Division II) Saturday night in a non-conference men's soccer match at Hodges Stadium. UNF improved its record to 3-4-0 on the season while Flagler had its four-match win streak snapped and fell to 4-2-0.
Conor Killeen (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) got Flagler on the board first when he scored an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute. Killeen dribbled in 30 yards, beat the UNF defender and found the back of the net by tucking the ball in the upper right corner.
The score remained the same until Sebastian Bianchi netted the equalizer, unassisted, in the 73rd minute.
UNF had a pair of opportunities before the end of regulation, but one shot sailed high and the other was saved by Saints goalkeeper
Chandler Gay (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo HS).
Flagler had one shot before the end of regulation but
Johan Bergfeld's (Akers Styckebruk, Sweden/Rekarnegymnasiet) went wide left.
Tony Restino tallied three saves in net for the Ospreys while Gay recorded four.
UNF out-shot Flagler 13-11, including 9-4 in the second half. The Saints held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Flagler was whistled for 22 fouls and UNF 15.
Flagler hosts Saint Leo University on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Saints Field in a key South Region match-up.
