ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Flagler College Saints men's soccer team (0-1-0) came up short to the 19th ranked (NCAA Division II) University of West Florida Argonauts 2-0 in the first 2008 season game at Saints Field Friday night.
Both teams went scoreless in the first half, but Matt Brooks of the Argos scored the first game goal in the beginning of the second. With an assist from Matt Williams, Brooks knocked the ball in off a Flagler defender.
The Saints played a man down for the remaining 15 minutes of the game when
Brad Vinciguerra (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga CC) received a red card from the referee for a hard foul. He had picked up a yellow card in the first half. West Florida scored again with two minutes remaining in the contest by a pass to the left post by Lance Nelson and into the net by Rafael Segal.
Leading the Saints was
Fredrik Ericsson (Uppsala, Sweden/Linneskolan) with three shots and one shot off goal. Goalkeeper
Chandler Gay (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo HS) tallied three saves.
The soccer club heads up to Georgia next for games September 5 and 6, taking on Thomas at 4:30 p.m. and Georgia Southwestern at 2 p.m. respectively.
