MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Andrew Koubek and Brian Milanes combined to toss a four-hitter as Barry University defeated Flagler College 5-1 in a non-conference baseball game at Feinbloom Field Friday night. Barry raised its record to 19-9 while Flagler fell to 17-13.
Koubek (3-0) tossed 7 2/3 innings and allowed four hits, one run, walked one and struck out eight. Milanes pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
The Buccaneers scored a run in the third on a ground out and added three more in the fifth aided by a two-run single by Evan Ashley.
The Saints scored a run in the seventh after
Kenny Ray led off with a bunt single.
Joey Rivera followed with a single down the left field line and then both runners advanced on a balk by Koubek.
Billy Johnson flied out to left which scored Ray.
The Bucs added a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
John Goryl (3-1) took the loss on the hill for the Saints. He tossed five innings and allowed six hits, four runs and walked two batters.
Michael Armistead pitched the final three innings and allowed just one hit and an unearned run.
Brett Rossi singled twice and scored a run for Barry. Ashley knocked in three runs.
Ray collected a pair of singles for Flagler. Rivera and Johnson had the other two hits for the Saints.
The same two teams meet in a doubleheader tomorrow (Mar. 22) at 1 p.m.
