Flagler men's golf team finishes in 11th place at Thomas U. Winter Invite

VALDOSTA, Ga. − The Flagler College men's golf team struggled with an opening round 322 and was able to shave 18 strokes in the second round but finished in 11th place at the 11-team, 36-hole Thomas University Winter Invitational which concluded Monday afternoon at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club (par 72, 7018 yards). As a team, the Saints shot a 50-over 626. Eighth-ranked (NAIA) Johnson & Wales University of North Miami won the team title placing first with an incredible 26-under par 550. They easily bested seventh-ranked (NAIA) Berry College by 45 strokes. Jess Houston of Johnson & Wales earned medalist honors with an 11-under 133. He was two strokes better than teammate David Vanegas who shot a 9-under 135.

Andrew Pressentin (Estero, Fla./Miami Palmetto HS) was the top finisher for the Saints wrapping up the tournament with a 4-over 148 which was good for a four-way tie for ninth place. Justin Wingo (Fairfax, Va./George Mason U.) carded a 13-over 157 to place 39th. Chris Bray (Hilliard, Fla./Hilliard HS), Kodi Merrell (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) and Steven Davis (Orange Park, Fla./Fleming Island HS) all finished in a tie for 46th place with a 15-over 159. Patrick Lamb (Lake Wales, Fla./Western Carolina U.) shot a 16-over 160 to place 52nd while Fredrik Ivarsson (Hovas, Sweden) rounded out the Flagler team with a 22-over 166 to finish in 61st place.

Flagler now sets its sights on the Panther Invitational Mar. 3-4 at Melbourne, Fla.
