ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Flagler College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at its own tri-match Saturday afternoon. Flagler fell in the opener to Valdosta State University 3-2 (27-25, 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 13-15) and then was swept in the nightcap by Barry University 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21). Barry defeated Valdosta State 3-1 in the middle match. Flagler fell to 11-8 while Barry improved to 7-4 and Valdosta State left at 11-14.
In the opener, Valdosta State served up 18 aces and was led by Irene Hannon who recorded 18 kills and 13 digs. Laura Boos registered a match-high 17 digs and tacked on four service aces while Kathrine Carter recorded five total blocks. Lea Weber tallied 44 assists for the Blazers. Jordan Allain added 11 kills. Ruthie King served up five aces while Chelsea Logan added four more.
Justine Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla./Winthrop U.) led Flagler with 17 kills and 11 digs.
Leah Melton (St. Augustine, Fla./Eckerd College) recorded a season-high 16 kills and hit .357.
Meg Weathersby (Maitland, Fla./Orangewood Christian School) added 15 kills and 12 digs for the Saints.
Jessica Wedemyer (Peachtree City, Fla./McIntosh HS) recorded four total blocks while
Rebecca Royal (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Fleming Island HS) tallied 32 assists.

In the nightcap, Barry hit a robust .348 (44 kills, 13 errors on 89 swings) and the front line of the defense recorded nine total blocks and held Flagler to a .021 hitting percentage (24 kills, 22 errors on 96 swings).
Camilla Pagnan led the Buccaneers with 12 kills, hit .524, and added nine digs while Julia Ridley recorded 11 kills and hit .471. Lauren Evans paced the defense with a match-high 16 digs while Meisje-Sable Burton recorded five total blocks. Julie Priester registered 40 assists for Barry.
Burkhardt led the Saints with nine kills and six digs. Royal tallied 16 assists and Weatersby and
Olivia Snipes (Easley, S.C./Easley HS) each served up three aces.
Flagler travels to Melbourne for a non-conference match against Florida Tech on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
