ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − It was only a matter of time before freshman guard #D.J. Ferguson# (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore HS) was going to break the assists record in a game at Flagler. Tonight was the night as his dished out 16 assists and added 19 points while fellow classmate John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla./New Hampton (N.H.) Prep) dropped in a season-high 31 points to help lead Flagler to a 98-79 win over Allen University of Columbia, S.C. in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Flagler Gym. Flagler extends its winning streak to five and raises its record to 11-4. The Saints have also won seven consecutive home games and ups its mark to 8-1 at Flagler Gym. The last time Flagler won seven consecutive home games was at the end of the 2003-04 season. Allen, a NAIA Division I independent, falls to 0-17.

Ferguson tied Rodney Bell's record of 15 assists (set vs. St. Thomas on Feb. 20, 1989) as he found a wide open Pietkiewicz for one of his six 3-pointers with 4:17 left to give the Saints an 85-70 lead. The record breaker came the next time down the court when Ferguson found Ben De La Cruz (Orlando, Fla./University HS) underneath the hoop and split two defenders for the layup and was fouled on the play.

De La Cruz added 18 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks after getting into early foul trouble. Bryan Borstelmann (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee HS) chipped in with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while also tacking on four assists for the Saints.

Desmon Leach paced the Yellow Jackets with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Demetrice Terrell led all Allen players with 18 points coming off the bench while Hiram Carolina chipped in with 17 points and eight rebounds. Spencer Williams tallied 10 points and nine rebounds.

The teams played a close first half with five ties and five lead changes.

Pietkiewicz sank a triple to give Flagler a 33-30 leadwith 5:15 left in the half and the Saints would never trail again. His 3-pointer also ignited a 17-8 run by Flagler to close the half with its biggest lead of the stanza, 47-38.

The Saints continued to stay hot and opened the second half on a 16-7 run to propel them to a 63-45 lead with 14:28 left after a Pietkiewicz transition layup.

The Yellow Jackets responded with a 22-9 run of their own to cut the deficit down to 72-67 after a Leach jumper with 8:20 left.

But Flagler raced back out to a comfortable 19-point lead after Borstelmann hit a jumper that concluded a 17-3 run by the Saints.
