JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. − The Flagler College men’s golf team successfully defended its North-South Intercollegiate title Tuesday afternoon as the team shot a 1-over par 577 to win by two strokes over Bethune-Cookman College in the two-round 36-hole tournament at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. Flagler College was the only non-NCAA Division I program in the 10-team tournament field. Flagler set a school record for the lowest round with an opening round 7-under 281. The previous record was a 283 shot at the NAIA Region XIV Tournament on Apr. 13, 2003 at Lake Wales.

Steven Davis (Orange Park, Fla.) carded a 1-under 143 and finished tied for second just two shots behind the medalist, Troy Coker of Bethune-Cookman. Davis shot a 70 in the opening round and finished with a 73 on Tuesday. Brad Barfield (Bryceville, Fla.) finished in a tie for fourth place with a 1-over 145 as did fellow teammate Ian Hoffman (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.). Barfield also shot under par in the opening round with 2-under 70. He closed with a 75 on the final round. Hoffman carded an even par 72 and followed with a 1-over 73. Erik Downs (West Palm Beach, Fla.) placed seventh after scorching the course in the first 18 holes, carding a round-best 3-under 69. He finished the two-round event with a 7-over 146. Dustin Funari (Homestead, Fla.) rounded out the scorers for the Saints with an 8-over 152.

Flagler concludes its regular season Mar. 29-Apr. 1 at the MFCU Intercollegiate Tournament at Camp LeJeune, N.C.
