ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Sophomore forward Boris Kalff (Cologne, Germany/Sports University of Cologne) blasted a shot from 8-yards out in the 46th minute to give Flagler College a lead it would never surrender in a 2-1 men's soccer victory over Saint Xavier University of Chicago Sunday afternoon at Saints Field. Flagler raises its record to 2-8-1 and is the team's second consecutive win. Saint Xavier falls to 6-8-0 and loses its second consecutive match, both occurring in Florida.

Kalff was positioned near the back post as Fredrik Ericsson (Uppsala, Sweden/Linneskolan) lobbed a cross from the right-side of the penalty area over to the waiting Kalff.

The Saints got on the board first (23rd minute) when sophomore midfielder Eoin Cassin (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) was dragged down by Cougar defender Tim Kopec in the penalty area setting up a penalty kick opportunity. Cassin took the shot and beat the keeper to the left.

Shortly thereafter, Zach Kekelik was in the right place at the right time when a cross through the box was mishandled and Kekelik one-touched the ball into the goal to tie the game 1-1 in the 24th minute.

That would be the score going into the beak.

Flagler controlled much of the second half and limited Saint Xavier to only two shots in the second stanza.

Josiah Holtz (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge HS) recorded three saves for the Saints. Ian Puckett tallied three saves for the Cougars.

Flagler outshot Saint Xavier 12-6 and also held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. A total of 29 fouls were whistled in the match with 22 going to the Saints.

Flagler College will head to Winter Park on Oct. 19 to face Rollins College in a 7 p.m. match. Saint Xavier will continue on the road with a match at Calumet College of St. Joseph on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
