Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. − Luke Sheekey scored the game winner, and his second goal of the match, in the 101st minute to lead Ecked College to a 2-1 double overtime win over Flagler College Saturday night at North Field. It was the season opener for both teams. Tonight’s match was the first for Flagler as a provisional NCAA Division II member.
Sheekey broke through the Flagler defense and booted the ball in at 101:32 for the win. He also notched the matches first goal at 42:23 when he took Joseph Ilett’s pass and found the back of the net.
David Iafrate (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) scored the equalizer for Flagler when he took Luke Sturgis’ (St. Augustine, Fla./Nease HS) pass and beat the keeper at the 77:15 mark.
With 24 seconds left in regulation, Andres Jaramillo (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) booted a shot on goal, but was saved by Eckerd’s keeper Jim Lebonitte.
The Saints had the only shot in the first 10-minute overtime period when Sean Gormley’s (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee HS) sailed wide of the goal in the 93rd minute.
Fredrik Ericcson (Uppsala, Sweden/Linneskolan), who came on as a substitute in the first overtime, put a shot on goal in the 101st minute that was saved.
Eckerd threatened when Ilett took a shot on goal but Jordan Holtz (Clermont, Fla./South Lake HS) stonewalled him in the 102nd minute. But the Tritons would score just 30 seconds later for the victory.
Lebonitte recorded 12 saves for Eckerd while Holtz tallied nine saves for Flagler. The Saints out-shot Eckerd 24-17 and each team recorded four corner kicks.
Flagler will play its home opener Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Brewton-Parker College at Flagler Field.
