SAVANNAH, Ga. − Gerson Penza’s (Willemstad, Curacao/St. Gregory’s U.) goal in the 85th minute prevented a shutout as 16th-ranked (NAIA) Savannah College of Art and Design defeated Flagler 4-1 in a non-conference men’s soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Forsyth Park.
Penza collected a pass from David Iafrate (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and beat the Bee goalkeeper with just 5:54 remaining.
Jordan Holtz (Clermont, Fla./South Lake HS) recorded six saves for Flagler (9-9-0), four of those coming in the opening half.
Matt Engele scored a pair of goals for SCAD (11-5-1). He scored the match’s first goal in the 24th minute, the only goal of the first half, and added another in the 82nd minute. Spencer Gray score the eventual game winner in the 67th minute when he headed in a rebound of Zach Bermann’s shot.
Tommi Sarkkinen tallied four saves for the Bees.
SCAD out-shot Flagler 14-6, but Flagler held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Flagler will look to snap its four-match losing streak Saturday night when they host North Florida at Saints Field at 7 p.m. There will be a special presentation for the six Flagler seniors prior to the start of the match.
