ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Jorgen Rosten’s (Tynset, Norway/Nord-Osterdal Videregaende) penalty kick in the 85th minute carried Flagler College to a 2-1 win over No. 21 (NSCAA/adidas Division II) Rollins College Wednesday night at Saints Field.
Rosten took the penalty kick after a Flagler player was taken down inside the penalty box. On Rosten’s first attempt, which found the back of the goal, the referee blew the play dead and he had to make a second attempt which beat the keeper to the lower right corner.
Boris Kalff (Cologne, Germany/Sports University of Cologne) scored Flagler’s (9-5-0) first goal on a free kick in the fifth minute.
Jacob Deloach put Rollins (11-4-0) on the board with an equalizer in the 31st minute. He received a great pass across the box to the back post from Jon Gruenewald and booted the ball home.
The match was played evenly throughout as Flagler started the game aggressively, but Rollins countered well against Flagler’s attack. Both teams recorded 15 shots, but Rollins held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
Jordan Holtz (Clermont, Fla./South Lake HS) record for saves for Flagler while his counterpart, Dana Singer of Rollins, tallied three saves.
Up next for Flagler College is a 3 p.m. match at Northwood University of West Palm Beach on Saturday. The Saints downed the Seahawks 1-0 earlier this year at Saints Field. Rollins concludes its regular season at Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn University at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
