DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— 12th-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University scored a pair of goals mid-way through the second half to pull away and defeat Flagler College 6-3 in a Florida Sun Conference men’s soccer match Friday night.
Craig Oldis and Daniel Whelan got Embry-Riddle (6-2, 4-1 Florida Sun) out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals in the 15th and 31st minutes. Pep Ponset Trenchs (Terrassa, Spain/Missouri Valley College) got the Saints on the board when he headed in a cross from Sean Gormley (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee HS) with just two minutes left in the half.
Flagler’s (2-7, 2-3) David Iafrate (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) scored the equalizer goal in the 52nd minute as he booted in a loose ball off a Jason Cascio (Sebastian, Fla./Sebastian River HS) free kick which was muffed by the Eagle goalkeeper.
Peter Masters would score in the 68th minute as he booted in a shot from the far left to put Embry-Riddle up for good.
Sean Frye (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) scored his first goal of the season as he knocked in a corner kick from Andres Jaramillo (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) in the 82nd minute.
Jordan Holtz (Clermont, Fla./South Lake HS) saved eight shots for the Saints.
ERAU out-shot Flagler 22-6 and held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Flagler will host Webber International Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at Saints Field.
