ST. AUGUSTINE – Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash., Florida State College-Jacksonville) went 5-for-7 with a triple and three runs batted in and Donna Munafo (Satellite Beach, Fla., Brevard CC) won both games in the circle as Flagler College swept a non-conference doubleheader from Florida Tech, 2-1 in eight innings and 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Flagler Field.

Flagler improved to 4-0 on the season and Florida Tech dipped to 1-5.

In the opener, Whitney Little (Bartow, Fla., Indian River State College) led off the bottom of the eighth with a single to third base. She stole send and took third on Lauren Bessent's (Jacksonville, Fla., Trinity Christian Academy) grounder to second base. With the count 1-0 on Personius, she dropped a squeeze bunt past the pitcher's circle and Little easily crossed home plate with the winning run.

Flagler trailed 1-0 but was able to pull even in the sixth inning when Personius lined a triple down the right field line that tipped the glove of a diving Lauren Cole. Little scored from second base on the play.

Munafo (2-0) picked up the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out five batters. Kalyn Loverich (St. Johns, Fla., Bartram Trail HS) pitched the first five innings and allowed four hits, one run and struck out five.

Personius went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Little singled twice, scored two runs and stole two bases.

Five different Panthers singled. Taylor Smith (0-3) took the loss after hurling 7.1 innings. She allowed eight hits and two earned runs, but did tally five strikeouts.

Florida Tech stranded nine runners on base.

In game two, it was Personius coming through in the clutch again. In the bottom of the sixth inning with Bessent at second base and two outs, Personius singled to left field and Bessent beat the throw home to the plate, which got away from the catcher and allowed Personius to take second.

That would be the only offense of the game in the pitcher's duel.

Munafo (3-0) went the distance and tossed a five-hit shutout. She fanned three and induced 10 ground outs and seven fly outs.

Personius went 2-for-3 with the only run batted in.

Brianna Barth (1-2) also pitched a complete game and took the loss for Florida Tech. She scattered four hits, allowed one run and struck out two batters. Barth retired 14 of the first 17 batters she faced until the sixth inning. She retired 12 batters on ground outs.

Kara Dickinson went 3-for-3 with a double for the Panthers.

Flagler will hit the road for the next six games. On Friday (Feb. 10), the Saints will open the Eckerd Spring Invitational with a re-match with Lynn University at 3 p.m., and then face Barry University at 7:30 p.m., at Clearwater, Fla.
