MELBOURNE – No. 12 (Campbell's/ITA Division II Top 25) Flagler College triumphed over Florida Tech in the season opener for both teams, 7-2, in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Fee Avenue Tennis Courts.

Flagler fell behind early losing two of the three doubles matches. Skyler Engel (New Albany, Ohio, Univ. of Toledo) and Stephan Stolz (Radstadt, Austria, MPG. St. Rupert) earned the only point for the Saints with an 8-3 win over D.J. Pate and Donovan Wetterstein at No. 3 doubles. Barry Dylewski and Michael Schmidt edged Gino Ramirez (Pembroke Pines, Fla., Dr. Michael Krop HS) and Jose Martinez (Houston, Texas, Alpha Omega Academy) 9-7 at No. 1 doubles while Nicolas Clerc and Jorge Abarca Montero slipped past Peter Coulis and Inigo Landaluce 9-7.

Coulis picked up a straight sets win over Dylewski at No. 1 singles – 6-2 and 6-0. Martinez went to three sets (7-5, 4-6, 10-5) to down Clerc at No. 2 doubles. Ramirez rebounded after dropping the first set to Beau Fieldsend 6-0 to take the match by winning 6-3 and 6-3. Landaluce, Adam Hunt (Woking, England, Mercer University), and Stolz all posted straight set victories.

Flagler plays host to Stetson University on Tuesday (Feb. 7) at 2:30 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
