VALDOSTA, Ga. – Brittany Ferguson scored 16 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to lead Valdosta State University to a 61-49 win over Flagler College in a non-conference women's basketball game Thursday night at The Complex.

Valdosta State extended its winning streak to three games in a row and improved to 14-4 overall. Flagler lost its sixth game in a row and fell to 2-16 overall.

Flagler opened with a 5-2 lead after a 3-pointer by Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla., Pedro Menendez HS) and a layup by Taye'Lor Trotter (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) sandwiched a layup by Ferguson. Ferguson would go on to score the next three baskets in a row for Valdosta State to ignite a 21-4 run over the next 8:56. A Courtney Mitchell 10-foot jumper capped the run and gave the Lady Blazers a 23-9 lead with 9:41 remaining.

Valdosta State took a 36-20 lead into the half after shooting 65.4% (17-26) from the field.

The Lady Blazers' lead grew to as many as 19 (40-21) early in the second half. The Saints made a run at the Lady Blazers with its own 15-3 run. Trotter sank a 15-foot jumper to cap the run and trim Valdosta State's lead to 43-36 with 10:47 left in the game. But the Lady Blazers would extend the lead to as many as 16 points en route to the win.

Valdosta State forced 22 Flagler turnovers and converted them into 24 points.

Ferguson made 10-of-12 from the field. Mitchell was the only other Lady Blazer to score in double figures as she tallied 10 points. Bena Hayward came off the bench to add five assists, four points and four steals while Jordan Waugh grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Jen Knurek (Orlando, Fla., Lake Mary HS) recorded her second consecutive double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Trotter added 15 points while Treva Mason (Orlando, Fla., West Orange HS) tallied 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Saints recorded their highest free throw percentage of the season, 86.7 (13-15).

Flagler steps back into Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday (Jan. 28) at North Georgia College & State University at 1:30 p.m.
