AMERICUS, Ga. – Phillip Brown recorded a double-double with a game-high 22 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to help lead Georgia Southwestern State University to an 83-54 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday afternoon at the Storm Dome.
Georgia Southwestern, the preseason favorite in the Peach Belt, won its second game in a row and its fifth in six games to improve to 11-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Flagler suffered its ninth straight loss and dropped to 6-10 overall and 0-9 in the league.
Brown made 11-of-his-13 shots from the field and added two assists and two steals to his line. Bobby Glover added 12 points while Jamon Hawkins came off the bench to score 10 points and grab seven rebounds. Milos Kleut chipped in with 10 points. Marlon Rivera contributed seven points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Hurricanes.
Georgia Southwestern dominated the interior out-scoring Flagler 50-16 and owning a 45-29 advantage in rebounding. The Hurricanes took advantage of 19 Saints turnovers and converted them into 26 points.
Matt Clark (St. Augustine, Fla., St. Augustine HS) led the Saints with 16 points and made 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Jarrod Branco (Hudson, Fla., Hudson HS) added 10 points.
Jordan Warner (Crawfordville, Fla., FAMU HS) led Flagler with seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
The Saints were held to their lowest point total of the season and the 33.3% (19-57) shooting from the field was their lowest of the year as well. Flagler also shot a season-low 18.8% (3-16) from 3-point range.
The Hurricanes opened the game by scoring the first nine points and never looked back. They lead by as many as 22 in the first half and settled with a 44-22 lead at the half. The Saints missed their first eight shots of the game.
Flagler will host Clayton State University on Thursday (Jan. 19) at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
