ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College women's golf team is in a tie for fourth place after the first 18 holes at the ninth annual Flagler Fall Slam Monday afternoon at a blustery Marsh Creek Country Club (par: 72; yards: 6062). The tournament concludes tomorrow.
Flagler shot 319 as a team and is nine shots back of the lead. Heading the 20-team pack is Lynn University with a 308, a record for the Fall Slam in its second year at Marsh Creek. They hold a four-shot lead over No. 25 Barry University. USC Beaufort is in third place, 10 shots back with a 318.
Samantha Smolen of Lynn leads the 105-woman field with a 1-over par 73. She holds a one-stroke lead over teammate Jessica Bradley and Erica Ray of Carson-Newman College.
Leslie Choucard (Chessy, France, Mercer University) led Flagler with a four-over 76 today. She is in a tie for fifth place.
Marie Santacroce (Mattituck, N.Y., Mattituck HS) shot a season-low round of 77 (+5) and is in a tie for seventh place.
Lauren Benetti (Celebration, Fla., Daytona State College) carded an 11-over 83 and is tied with
Nicole Keyser (Cary, N.C., Green Hope HS) for 11th place.
Elin Karlsson (Vanersborg, Sweden, Vaxjo Fria Gymnasium) shot a 14-over 86.
Marissa Marinan (Niceville, Fla, Niceville HS) shot a 9-over 81 playing as one of the Flagler individuals.
Laura Weaver (Jacksonville, Fla., Spartanburg Methodist College) carded an 18-over 90 and
Kelsey Hughes (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Allen D. Nease HS) finished with a 19-over 91.
The par 3 No. 4 (126 yards) hole yielded the most birdies today with 15. The most difficult hole was the par 4 No 8 hole (386 yards) which had 42 bogies, 22 double bogies and nine more scores worse than that. The No. 8 hole was birdied only three times.
