The Flagler women's soccer team split its first two matches of the season last week at the Queens University of Charlotte Women's Soccer Tournament.
The Saints won their opener 1-0 over Queens courtesy of
Loren Cate. In the 12th minute, Cate found the back of the net to provide the only scoring during the match.
Christie Reuther recorded five saves during the shut out.
Flagler's second match came against Pfeiffer University, the Saints would rally back from a 1-0 deficit in the 49th minute when
Lindsay Zullo took a pass from Cate and headed it home to tie the score. The Falcons would clinch the win however in the 73rd minute when Lindsay Godwin headed in a cross from Sheena Regan to bring the final count to 2-1.
The Saints will be on the road for two matches this week. The first comes Sept. 8 when Flagler travels to Daytona Beach, Fla., to play No. 24 (NAIA) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The Saints defeated the Eagles 2-1 in St. Augustine last season. Cate and
Tiffany Urquhart tallied Flagler's two goals while Reuther saved three shots. ERAU is on a three-game winning streak after defeating Mobile 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 4. Martine Olsen has tallied a team-high five goals this season. Krissy Menez leads the Eagles in assists with four. She was a first-team All-The Sun Conference selection as a freshman. Menez scored eight goals and tallied seven assists last season. Elina Johansson was a third-team All-America selection last season after scoring 23 goals and assisting on 20 others. She was also the offensive player of the year in The Sun Conference.
On Sept. 11, Flagler will travel to Alabama to face the University of Montevallo. The Saints tied the Falcons 1-1 in overtime last season in St. Augustine. Urquhart scored Flagler's only goal while Nicola Stolworthy tallied Montevallo's. The Falcons have split their first two matches of the season and are coming off a tough 1-0 double-overtime loss to Faulkner University. Montevallo had two players named to the all-conference team last season. Paige Scott and Natalie Martineau were both second-team selections for the Falcons. Scott tallied a team-high seven goals while Martineau had a team-high eight assists. The Falcons were picked to finish sixth in the Peach Belt poll.
