SALISBURY, N.C. − Kaitlyn Edwards (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) is in a two-way tie for 38th place after the first 18 holes at the 54-hole NCAA Division II South Regional Championships Sunday at the Country Club of Salisbury (par 71; 6,094 yards). The second will be played tomorrow.

Edwards, playing as one of four individuals and is ranked No. 33 in Division II by Golfstat, carded a 13-over par 84. She opened with a par on the 350-yard par-4 first hole. Edwards bogeyed the next two holes and the parred the fourth hole to remain 2-over. She bogeyed the fifth hole, but followed with a pair of pars. Edwards finished the front with two bogeys for a 5-over 40.

She parred holes 10 and 11, but carded an eight on the par-4 12th hole to slip to 9-over.Edwards collected pars on the next two holes before bogeying No. 15 and then parring No. 16. She double bogeyed the par-3 17th hole and closed her round with a bogey on No. 18.

To qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships May 12-15 in Mesa, Ariz., she needs to finish at least third-out-of-the-four individual players. The top individual player is Emily Gibson of the University of Montevallo. She shot a 2-over 73 and is in a tie for fourth overall. Ashley Denton of Wingate University is in second place among the individuals with a 5-over 76. Kelsey Babos of Catawba College is third with a 9-over 80.

Nova Southeastern University and Florida Southern College are tied for first with a 304 and Rollins College is a distant third four shots back while Barry University in one shot behind Rollins. The top three teams will advance to the national championships.
