Gunnarsson was one of the best goalkeepers to play for the Saints. He starred on the men’s soccer team from 1996-97, took two years off to play for Iceland’s U21 National Team, and returned in 1999. Gunnarsson was a three-time NAIA All-American, All-Region XIV and All-Florida Sun Conference selection. Gunnarsson earned Academic All-Florida Sun Conference honors in 1997. He is fourth in the program’s history for saves in a match (12), fourth in shutouts in a season with 11, third in careers saves (157) and third in career shutouts (18). Post-Flagler, he played professionally in Iceland and had one full-cap playing for its national team.
