CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Flagler College women's cross country team finished in 14th place at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional this morning at the McAlpine Creek Park. Taylor Strekel (Stroudsburg, Pa., Stroudsburg HS) became Flagler's first all-region runner after finishing in 20th place with a time of 23:09.0.

Flagler's 14th place finish was its highest finish since becoming full Division II member in 2008.

The host school, Queens University of Charlotte took top team honors, in the 26-team field, with 39 points. The Royals placed four runners in the top 11. The University of Montevallo finished a distant second with 140 points, but qualifies, along with Queens, for the Division II National Championships.

Kate Griewisch of Lenior-Rhyne University led the 189-woman field with a time of 20:38.3 over the 6K course. Kimone Hewitt of Queens finished second at 21:18.5.

Strekel knocked 39 seconds off her personal-best time in the 6K with her performance today. Kathleen Casagrande (Spring Lake Heights, N.J., St. Rose HS) finished 61st with a time of 24:11.0 which breaks her best time in this distance by 38 seconds. Laura McKnight (Jupiter, Fla., Jupiter HS) followed for the Saints in 77th place with a time of 24:24.1. She knocked off more than 23 seconds off her previous season-best time in the 6K. Erin Buning (St. Augustine, Fla., Truman State University) finished with a time of 24:53.4, an eyelash over a minute better than her previous-best. She finished in 96th place. Nicole Allen (Bozeman, Mont., Bozeman HS) rounded out the point scorers for Flagler with a time of 26:06.4 and finished in 135th place.

Madeleine Pinaire (New Port Richey, Fla., J.W. Mitchell HS) finished right behind Allen with a time of 26:10.8 and placed 138th. Melissa Schmidt (Gainesville, Fla., Brevard College) finished 142nd with a time of 26:15.3.
