ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College's Taylor Strekel (Stroudsburg, Pa., Stroudsburg HS) and Corey Mundy (Green Cove Springs, Fla., Clay HS) both earned Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Freshman of the Year honors after the completion of the conference championships last Saturday at Aiken, S.C.

Strekel finished second in the women's 6K race with a season-best time of 23:48.71. Her time topped all other freshmen in the competition. Because of her top-seven finish, Strekel also earned first-team all-conference honors. Earlier in the year, she won the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational (Sept. 17) on the same course. Strekel transferred to Flagler from the University of Pittsburgh, but is still a freshman as she did not compete at Pitt.

Mundy finished in eighth place in the men's 8K race with a time of 27:07.12 and was the top freshman in the PBC Championship. He also earned second-team all-conference honors. Mundy shaved over 50 seconds off his 8K time on the same course. He finished 12th at the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational on Sept. 17.

The Flagler cross country teams are now in preparation for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals in Charlotte, N.C. which will be held Nov. 5.
